This chapter sets out the State aid rules applying in the field of transport, which is defined as all means of land, air, and sea-based transport, as well as infrastructure that is used to provide transportation services such as ports, roads, airports, and railway lines. It also discusses aid to the shipbuilding sector. The chapter begins with an outline of the legislative framework, which includes specific Treaty provisions on transport and sectoral secondary legislation, as well as the general State aid rules. The subsequent sections address in detail the State aid rules applicable to the rail transport, road transport, inland waterways, intermodal transport, air transport, and maritime transport/shipbuilding sectors.
