Richard Whish is Professor of Law at King's College London. From April 2003 to March 2009 he was a non-executive director of the Office of Fair Trading. He is a qualified solicitor, was in practice as a partner for nine years and continues to act as a consultant on competition law. In 2011 he was recipient of the Global Competition Review Award for Academic Excellence.

Biographies
Pinar Akman is Professor of Law at the University of Leeds, where she is the Director of the Centre for Business Law and Practice. She is also an Associate Member of the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy at University of East Anglia. She has degrees in law from the University of Ankara and the University of East Anglia. She is a qualified lawyer in Turkey and is an expert in EU and UK competition law and economics. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals such as the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies and the Modern Law Review. She is the author of The Concept Abuse in EU Competition Law: Law and Economic Approaches (Hart Publishing, Oxford, 2012).
Adriana Almășan is a Professor of Civil Law and Competition Law. She is the director of the Master in Business Law of the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Law. She held the position of director of the Master in EU Law and was a vice-dean at the same faculty. She previously taught at the College of European Union Law, University Paris I, Pantheon-Sorbonne and University of Bucharest, Faculty of Law. She is the co-founder and the director of the “Centre for Competition Law Studies”, established by the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest. She was an invited professor and research fellow (Leibnitz University of Hannover, University of Florence, l’Institut de Recherche Juridique de la Sorbonne de l'Université Paris 1 Panthéon). She is author and co-author of several books and articles on civil law, contract negotiation and competition law published by Springer, Europa Law, Cujas Editions, CH Beck and others. She sits in the scientific board of several law journals. She practices law, currently as Managing Partner and coordinator of competition and M&A practice of Law Office “TAMC-Attorneys at Law” in Bucharest and she is also a member of the panel of arbitrators with the Romanian Court of International Commercial Arbitration by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania.
Arianna Andreangeli, is a Lecturer in Competition Law at University of Edinburgh where she is course organiser of modules on the LLM and specialises in EU and domestic competition law, both substantive and procedural. She is author of “Private enforcement of antitrust: regulating corporate behaviour through collective claims in the EU and the US” (E Elgar, 2014) and “EU Competition Enforcement and Human Rights” (E Elgar, 2008)
Philip Andrews is a partner and co-head of the Competition, Regulated Markets, and EU law group in McCann FitzGerald, where he focuses on antitrust litigation, transactional and counselling issues. . Prior to joining McCann FitzGerald in 2002, Philip served as Legal Adviser to the Irish Competition Authority, where he was involved in drafting the Competition Act, 2002, advising on the adoption of Regulation 1/2003, as well as day-to-day case work. Previously, Philip practised in the Brussels office of a leading Wall Street law firm, specialising in antitrust and telecoms law, following a training period with the European Commission (DG Competition).
Anastasios Antoniou is a partner at Antoniou McCollum & Co. He advises multinational companies and governments on competition, regulatory and transactional matters. Anastasios represents clients before courts and competition authorities in Cyprus and the EU, as well as arbitration tribunals.
Luís Pais Antunes is a Partner at PLMJ – Sociedade de Advogados, RL and a visiting lecturer at both University of Coimbra Law School and Universidade Católica Portuguesa Law School. Iñigo Igartua Arregui has been a of Gómez-Acebo & Pombo since 1999 and a member of the firm since 1990. He was based in the Brussels office from 1990 to 1992, since which time he has been resident in the Barcelona office. Mr Iguarta is a Member of the Governing Board of the Spanish Competition Association, former Deputy General Reporter and Member of the Board of Directors of the International League for Competition Law (LIDC) and Former Chairman of the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association. Mr Igartua has advised Spanish and foreign companies on competition law in matters such as drafting and revision of all types of vertical contracts, mergers and acquisitions, investigation files and authorisation files, before the Spanish and European Competition authorities. He has also advised on contractual litigation involving competition law matters in Spain.
Eric Barbier de La Serre is a partner at Jones Day. He is a member of the Paris, Brussels, and New York Bars. He focuses his practice on European and French competition law with a particular emphasis on antitrust litigation, State aid, and merger control. He has handled numerous antitrust and State aid cases involving the telecommunications, electronic components, media, financial services, and energy sectors. Starting in 2003, he served for five years as référendaire and then Chef de Cabinet to Bo Vesterdorf, at that time President of the European Court of First Instance (today’s General Court) in Luxembourg.
Andreas Bardong has held different functions at Bundeskartellamt (German competition authority), Bonn since 2001. Since 2008 he has been head of unit merger control policy in the BKartA’s general policy department. Prior positions within the BKartA included: case manager (rapporteur) in the decision division on construction/construction materials, advisor in the units on legislation, network industries/public relations, as well as case handler in the decision division on telecommunications services. Between 1997-2001 he was an associate at two international law firms in Brussels, Belgium. He gained a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan Law School, United States and a Doctorate in law, University of Saarland, Germany.
Mathilde Beaumunier is a Principal Associate in Freshfields’ antitrust, competition and trade practice group in Berlin. She is a French-qualified lawyer and a member of the Berlin Bar Association, advising on European competition law with a focus on merger control, vertical agreements and cartel investigations. She has worked on cross-borders mandates, in particular in the industrial and financial services sectors. Mathilde speaks French, English and German.
Alec J Burnside is a Partner at Cadwalder, leading the Brussels team . He concentrates on EU competition law and over the past three decades has practiced across the range of competition law disciplines, regularly working on high-profile cases with implications for global industries, governments, and leading corporations. He has become a highly sought-after counsellor to Boards and CEOs, as well as a commentator in the media on matters of international antitrust. His sector expertise spans financial services, IT, consumer products, energy, natural resources, manufacturing, military, pharmaceuticals, transport and logistics, and telecoms. He is a graduate of Cambridge and Brussels Universities, a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and a foreign member of the Brussels Bar.
Anca Chiriţă joined Durham Law School in 2011 where she convenes Competition Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and is a member of Counsel with Mircea & Partners. Previously, she was Konrad-Adenauer PhD fellow at the Europa-Institut, Saarland University, Germany, where she was awarded Summa cum laude in competition law and the Dr Friedrich-Feldbausch-Stiftung Prize for best dissertation in the academic year 2010/2011. She also worked in a team of researchers selected by the College of Europe, Bruges, as a legal trainee with the Monopolies Commission in Bonn, and as a Blue Book trainee with the European Commission in Brussels. During 2013/14 she was Co-Director of the Durham European Law Institute and, during 2012/14, a DAAD visiting fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht and Europa-Kolleg in Hamburg. She js author of The German and Romanian Abuse of Market Dominance in the Light of Article 102 TFEU, (2011) Nomos, Germany.
Martin André Dittmer is managing partner at Gorrissen Federspiel. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of Gorrissen Federspiel, developing and implementing the firm’s strategic plan, and monitoring the firm’s financial performance. Martin André Dittmer is head of EU & Competition at Gorrissen Federspiel. He has extensive practical experience within Community law, including competition law. Within competition law, Martin André Dittmer deals with merger applications to the Commission, Danish competition authorities, and foreign competition authorities, advises clients on horizontal and vertical agreements under article 101 (including cartels), matters of abuse of dominance under article 102, and all types of matters within competition law. Martin Andre Dittmer is Secretary General of the European Maritime Law Organisation (EMLO), member of the board of the Danish Competition Law Society and President of the Competition Law Commission at Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). Martin André Dittmer is author and co-author of books and numerous articles on competition law, public procurement, etc. in various Danish and international legal magazines and he is a regular speaker on topics concerning competition law.
Anyana Dootalieva is a lawyer at the Brussels Bar. She previously worked at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Ayana is trained in law and social sciences and holds degrees from Ghent University (Ghent, Belgium) and Columbia University (NY, USA).
Gábor Fejes is a founding partner of Oppenheim and Head of Oppenheim's Antitrust, Competition and Trade practice. He is an invited lecturer of Hungarian contract law at the Eötvös Loránd University and also teaches EU law at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Budapest. Gábor is also the national correspondent editor of Bellamy & Child: European Community Law of Competition, a member of the Scientific Board of the Competition Research Centre of PPKE, serves on the editorial board of the Journal of European Competition Law and Practice and advisor to the International Competition Network. He regularly publishes on EU and Hungarian competition law and questions of Hungarian contract law and arbitration. He is also the author of the first Hungarian language commentary to Articles 101 to 109 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Prior to joining Oppenheim, Gábor was a senior counsel of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Budapest until 2007 and also worked at the law firm’s Brussels office. He is a founding partner of Oppenheim and is the head of the antitrust, competition and trade practice group since its foundation.
Cani Fernández is director of Competition and EU Law Practice at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira. She has extensive experience in company acquisitions and mergers, competition and anti-dumping, telecommunications and energy, and EU litigation. She was référendaire at the European Court of Justice from 1994 to 1997 and from 2012 to 2014 co-chair of the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). She is a member of the governing board of the Master in European Union Law at Universidad Carlos III, lectures on Competition Law at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) and a member of the Zaragoza and Barcelona bar associations, the IBA, the Fédération Internationale de Droit Européen, and the American Bar Association (ABA). She is the co-author, with Enric Picanyol, of the Spanish version of Bellamy & Child’s Common Market Law on Competition, published under the title of Derecho de competencia en el Mercado Común (Competition Law in the Common Market), Civitas, 1991.
Joanna Goyder has worked in Brussels in since 1990, and since 2000 has led knowledge management and legal training for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s international competition law practice. She is qualified as a Barrister, England and Wales, and holds law degrees from Cambridge University, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the European University Institute, Florence. Since 2002 she has given seminars to LLM students at Cambridge University. She has published widely, and is the author of EC Distribution Law (5th edn, 2011, Hart Publishing) and joint author of D.G. Goyder’s EC Competition Law (5th edn, 2009, Oxford University Press). Joanna speaks French, Italian, Spanish and some Dutch.
Robert Hardy is a Local Partner in Amsterdam in Greenberg Traurig’s Antitrust Litigation & Competition Regulation Practice. In addition, he focuses his practice on regulatory matters. He advises clients on high-value and complex matters spanning a wide spectrum of economic sectors, including chemicals, defense, pharmaceuticals, and technology. Robert represents clients before the European Commission, the Dutch Competition Authority (ACM), the Dutch administrative law courts, and the EU courts in matters relating to cartel defense, abuse of dominance, merger control, and State aid proceedings. Additionally, he represents clients before the Dutch civil law courts on issues relating to antitrust recovery / damages claims, and standard-essential patents and FRAND licensing disputes. Robert also advises clients in relation to antitrust / competition law compliance, and foreign direct investment (FDI) / national security regimes. A native Dutch speaker with fluent English, Robert holds a Master of Laws (with Distinction) from Maastricht University, a Ph.D. from Maastricht University, and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School (Fulbright Scholar). He was also a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley Law School (funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research). He has more than 30 publications, including in the Common Market Law Review, European Review of Private Law, International & Comparative Law Quarterly, Maastricht Journal of European and Comparative Law, as well as in leading Dutch-language law journals.
Johannes Holzwarth is a Case Handler Officer at DG Competition’s Unit A1 – Antitrust case support and policy. In this position, he provides procedural and substantive support to case teams investigating and analyzing antitrust cases and develops policy and law in the field of antitrust. Johannes is part of the team that works on the revision of the Vertical Block Exemption Regulation and the Vertical Guidelines. Before joining the European Commission, Johannes advised companies on competition law matters as an attorney at an established German law firm. He received a Doctorate degree in law (Dr. iur.) from the University of Münster (Germany) and was awarded a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from the University of Chicago (USA).
Christina Hummer, is a Partner of Saxinger Chalupsky & Partner (SCWP) and Schindhelm, where she advises domestic and foreign companies on European and national competition law. She completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at New York University and a diploma in economics in competition law at King’s College in London. She has extensive experience in antitrust proceedings before the European Commission and national competition authorities, in particular in cartel investigations, merger filings, proceedings relating to abuse of a dominant position and state aid. She also regularly advises on antitrust compliance. In addition, Christina Hummer regularly publishes and is a speaker at conferences.
András G. Inotai is a member of the cabinet of Maria Damanaki, European Commissioner for maritime affairs and fisheries. He advises the Commissioner on legal and institutional issues, justice affairs and is in charge of relations with the European Parliament and national parliaments. Previously, András worked in the Competition Directorate General of the European Commission. He specialised in antitrust and regulatory cases in the electronic communications sector and then worked on the development of the strategic direction of DG Competition's activities in competition law enforcement, competition policy initiatives and competition advocacy. He also represented the European Commission as project leader in the Agency Effectiveness project of the International Competition Network. Before joining the European Commission, András worked in the Brussels office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, specialising in telecommunications, media and technology cases.
Ekaterina Islentyeva works as a legal expert for the Luxembourg Central Bank where she focuses on the application of the ECB’s Single Supervisory Mechanism. She holds a joint Master’s Degree from the University of Luxembourg and the University of Strasbourg and a PhD in law from the University of Luxembourg. She specialises in European Law and Competition Law. She has published mainly on issues of EU Competition Law and Law & Economics. All opinions expressed by Ekaterina represent personal views and are in no way related to her work with the Luxembourg Central Bank.
Jiří Kindl is a partner and a head of competition law practice at Skils law firm (Prague). In his legal practice, he specializes in competition and regulatory matters and complex litigations/arbitrations. He has extensive experience with various competition law cases before the Czech Office for Protection of Competition, European Commission as well as Czech courts. Jiri Kindl graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague where he also obtained his Ph.D. He also studied law at the University of Limerick (Ireland) and a post-graduate course at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford (University College) where he obtained Distinction and Clifford Chance Prize for Best Performance in Magister Juris, Winter Williams European Business Regulation Prize and Monckton Chambers Prize in Competition Law. He authored or co-authored many leading publications on the Czech competition law, incl. e.g. an university textbook on Competition Law (Prague, C.H. Ioannis Kokkoris is a Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Reading, UK. He is an expert on competition law as well as law and economics. Liza Lovdahl Gormsen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and an expert on UK and European Competition Law. Previously Dr Gormsen served as a Lawyer at the UK competition regulator the Office of Fair Trading, where she gained extensive experience in consumer goods industries and pharmaceuticals. She has been part of major cartel investigations and cases concerning abuse of dominance, in particular, rebate cases and has also has been involved in a number of legal submissions to the European Commission. She is author of A Principled Approach to Abuse of Dominance in European Competition Law. The Cambridge Antitrust and Competition Law Series. Cambridge University Press, 2010 and a speaker at national as well as international conferences on a broad range of issues.
Thomas Lübbig has been a partner in Freshfields’ antitrust, competition and trade group since 2001, based in the Berlin office. Thomas specialises in EU law, in particular EU competition law, state aid law, questions regarding the European internal market, and German competition law. He represents clients regularly before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. He is is a member of the German Association of Competition Law and the German Council on Foreign Relations. Dr Yolanda Martinez is a senior lawyer specialising in competition and EU law member of the Barcelona Bar Association. She has focused her entire career on European Union law, specialising in competition law and administrative litigation. Philip Marsden is Deputy Chair at the Competition and Markets Authority. From 2003-2014 he was Senior Research Fellow at the British Institute for International and Comparative Law – London, and Director of the Institute’s Competition Law Forum. He is a non-executive Director on the Boards of the UK Office of Fair Trading, the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority, the Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority, and is Public Advisor to the Lithuanian Competition Council. Philip is also Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, teaching the core LL.M. Competition course and is co-founder and General Editor of the European Competition Journal. He advises the European Commission, OECD, UNCTAD, and the London School of Economics with respect to analysis, peer review, and the training of officials and judges on competition issues. He earned his doctorate in competition and trade law from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining the Institute in 2003, Philip practiced competition law in Toronto, Tokyo, and London, advising firms in the retail, software, and mobile telephony sectors and still acts as an advisor and expert witness in these areas.
Marek Martyniszyn is a Lecturer in Law at Queen's University Belfast. Previously he was a Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies at Loyola University Chicago (USA). He received a PhD from University College Dublin and an LLM from the Europa-Institut, Saarland University. Marek's research focuses on transnational and comparative aspects of competition law and policy. At Queen's he teaches Competition Law as well as Contract Law.
Clement Mifsud-Bonnici is an Associate at GANADO Advocates. He assists in commercial and contentious matters with a special focus on issues involving competition, State aid, public procurement and regulatory law. Mika Oinonen is a partner and head of competition and regulatory with DLA Piper Finland Attorneys Ltd. He has over 15 years of experience from both the public and private sector with an extensive background in the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority, working among others on merger control, authoring the FCCA's Merger Guidelines (2011) and contributing to various international working groups. Mika has also participated in the preparatory work of the Finnish Competition Act. His doctoral thesis was nominated as the best doctoral thesis of jurisprudence of the year (2009) in Finland. He has published two books and a number of articles, blogs and writings in competition law. His most recent book, EU:n ja Suomen kilpailuvalvonta (The EU’s and Finland’s Competition Control) was published in 2016. Michael Ristaniemi has worked at Metsä Group since 2013 and has acted as the group's competition counsel, as well as contributes to DG Competition’s work at the ICN as a Non-Governmental Advisor. Pepijn van Ginneken heads the competition department of Brinkhof and specializes in competition law, EU law, and regulated industries. Jeremy West is a Senior Expert in Competition Law at the OECD in Paris. Prior to joining the OECD he was a trial attorney at the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice, an associate in a large Washington, DC law firm, and an investigator for the New Zealand Commerce Commission. Jeremy’s work has focused on unilateral conduct, the interface between competition and intellectual property, and competition in technology sectors. He also serves on the editorial board of the Antitrust Law Journal.
Peter Whelan is Professor of Law at the University of Leeds, where he is the Deputy Director of the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, University of Leeds. Prior to this he was Senior Lecturer in Law, ESRC Centre for Competition Policy and UEA Law School University of East Anglia, UK. He has degrees in law from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD in law from St John’s College, University of Cambridge. A qualified US Attorney-at-Law, he is an expert in competition law and is on the Editorial Boards of five journals, including World Competition and the Journal of Antitrust Enforcement.
